Does the "Hemp Surfboard Soft Car Rack" go through the inside of the car? Or does it need to attach to racks above the car or to gutters?

The soft rack goes through the car and uses 2 buckles and tightening straps to hold the soft racks in place. The car rack does not need any additional hardware to carry the surfboard. However, we suggest using our straps as an added security measure.
